I have never once been surprised by a Christmas gift. I always knew what was in the package. Growing up, it was rare that we even got gifts. By the time we started receiving Christmas gifts, I was 13 and my mother married a man who would not allow her to not celebrate. We finally got our first Christmas tree and we were excited to finally be able to tell people what we got for Christmas without lying. Well, turned out, I was the one who sat up with my mom late at night wrapping all the gifts..even my own. After leaving home, I was never surprised because before having children, I didn't celebrate Christmas, why should I? I was alone. Then I had children, and again, because I was the mom, I wrapped the gifts. I loved seeing the surprise on my children's faces. Well, now they are adults and two of them have come to me asking what I want. I tell them, surprise me, don't tell me..i want to have no idea what is in the package. Still, my daughter came to me and told me what she was getting me. My oldest son did it to me today. I am disappointed that I know what is going to be in the package again. And before anyone jumps on me, I do know what the season is about, and that is the main reason for the celebration.
