'Cheddar Man's DNA is available for analysis
By Colin Barras
A Briton who lived 10,000 years ago had dark brown skin and blue eyes. At least, that’s what dozens of news stories published this month – including our own – stated as fact. But one of the geneticists who performed the research says the conclusion is less certain, and according to others we are not even close to knowing the skin colour of any ancient human.
Cheddar man, green triangle on this PCA, plots with other European Holocene samples (brown shapes). Closest modern genetic match is Northern Europeans (Baltic/Nordic/British). Non-Europeans are even further away from him.
So it's all been a big nothing then?
Why aren't the mainstream British media reporting this? They were gleeful about the 'black' revelation a couple of weeks ago. There's nothing in the BBC, Independent or Guardian about this.
They've mysteriously stopped caring.
