  • Why do people say that a wedding is "the bride's day?"?

Isn't it a day about the couple in love, exchanging their vows and promising to be together? Or is it some reality show where the girlfriend transforms into a Bridezilla?

  • My best friend doesn't want me to be a bridesmaid?

Best answer: I can understand how hurt you must be. I would’ve thought that signs of her true character would have emerged before this. If you still want to go, then do so, but It’s time to expand your circle of friends. as she is not a very good one.

  • Objecting at a wedding?

I've known both the bride and groom for a long time, I've been in love with her for almost 2 years. Should I object when they ask "if anyone knows why these two shouldn't be married...?"

My fiance and I are having our wedding on February 17th, 2018. However, we just decided that we are also going to the courthouse on Tuesday the 13th because that has been our "dating" anniversary for the past 4 years (we met on a dating website so it was the date we met and our first date). I had always thought it would be sweet to get married on that anniversary and he thinks it's a good idea. At first we were just doing saturday the 17th because mid week weddings are inconvenient for many reasons. But sort of last second we threw this in too because it's a special date for us. We told our parents and siblings they are welcome to come. His mom is mad because we are being "rude" about changing things last minute. We are still having the wedding on saturday, by the way. She can't / doesn't want to take off work for a "tasteless" courthouse ceremony. We are still going forward with our courthouse ceremony before the saturday wedding. But, I am wondering how you fellow parents / siblings/ etc would feel if a close loved one did this? Hurt, left out?

I don't know the bride very well at all so I'm not sure what would fit here. But I am curious if anyone knows of something that ended up being a good gift for the $20-30 range.

The wedding was set to start at 6pm in an indoor wedding venue/ banquet hall, At about 1 -2 pm, the area where the venue was located went out of power. The owners didn't notify the bridal party nor did they bother getting a generator beforehand. Nor ffer a refund or offer to reschedule the wedding.Rather, they made the bridal party's over 600 guests stay inside the venue on a 95 degree day. the owners hid in the back for over two hours, and left the venue leaving the wedding guests in the dark hot venue. instead of running out to get a generator (that should have been on the premise in the first place). The groom's brother had to get a generator for the wedding...BUT the venue claimed it was the owners who got it-WHICH THE OWNERS DID NOT BOTHER GETTING ONE AT TIME OF THE INCIDENT. (as it took only 30 minutes for the groom's brother to get a generator juxtaposed to two hours of hiding and running off with out returning a generator). The city's power was restored at 9:30pm, what the bridal party paid over tens of thousand of dollars to have a four hour wedding only lasted two hours because the owners told them the party had to be over by 11:30 (as originally planned) and eventually shut it down.

So basically, me and my partner have booked the wedding, not for another two years but we’re pretty excited! However, when we went to book it both sets of parents came along to view the place and so on so they know what it looks like. We’re due to put the deposit down in two weeks and my parents are coming to that as they are paying the deposit. Although, the day after they have a wedding fayre (we can see the room all set up as we haven’t seen this) and we get to see all the people who have ads for things we need I.e cake/dresses and so on. I wasn’t originally going to be able to make it due to work, so we asked the women (mom and his mom) to get photos of the place but I’ve swapped my shift so now I can attend. So we’ve decided we would like to go as a couple (it’s the first thing we’d of done as a couple) his mom agrees this is a good idea however my moms really annoyed and upset she can’t come along as she basically thinks that just cause his mom is no longer coming, she and my sister in law should still go. I’m angry as I just think it should be a couple thing, and there’s another fayre a month down the line which my dad says they could go to but she’s not having any of it, help please?

My fiancée & I recently got engaged. My parents love me but always made it clear to their kids that if we want a college degree or wedding that they wouldn't be able to help. That's fine, I'm a court house and dinner with close family type of woman. No big fuss, no big bill. My future MIL and I get along well but she expects a wedding and my fiancée would *prefer* a wedding too. I don't mind having a small church wedding and getting a modest reception for around 20-40 people. I can use some of my savings, my fiancée is in pharmacy school and wouldn't mind using his loans to provide a little. The problem is that my MIL would like around 100 guests from her side alone. She would like to invite everyone in her small town & church that she's on good terms with. I just became debt free from student loans and I'm not going to have my fiancée spend 5k+ on a wedding when he's still in pharmacy school nor am I getting into unnecessary debt again until it's time to consider a mortgage. I have 15-20 people max I'd invite to a "big" wedding. MIL has mentioned paying for her daughter's wedding (who is still very single) as well as paying for our honeymoon (which is nice). Should I ask her to chip in considerably for a wedding that big instead of providing honeymoon? Honestly, if I didn't have a good relationship with her, I'd tell her to forget the wedding altogether but I don't want to strain things with her or put my fiancée in a tough situation even though I know he'd elope if I asked.
