I've worked at my job for almost five years now and was promoted to manager three years ago. I've gotten one raise the entire time I've been there because the boss rarely does reviews because she says she "doesn't have time". I just found out that all new hires are starting in making the same amount as me. Me, supposedly a manager, and I'm making the same as people who aren't even responsible for a quarter of what I do each day. My boss had said she has no problem giving me an extra dollar. But I feel like that doesn't seem like enough for all that I have to do. Should I just take the extra dollar and tell her my list of responsibilities needs to decrease or ask for more money so make up for all that I have to do?

I know walking off is terrible, but how much of an impact does it have on jobs for teenagers/young adults? Cause I know a lot of teenagers quit and go through a lot of jobs? I just want a job to be able to afford living. I’m worried I won’t find anything.

I've never quit a job before, so I just don't know if I said the right thing. My boss is super nice and me leaving has nothing to do with the people there so I just don't want to sound rude as I quit.

I recently resigned from my job and am one week into my four week notice period. I just discovered that they’re advertising my job as two full time roles, both with a higher salary than I’ve been getting. I’ve worked at the company for three years and have always worked super hard (which is proven by the fact they need two full time roles to cover my work!) so I’m feeling extremely hurt and unappreciated. I have a good relationship with my boss despite me not always agreeing with the way she treats others, and I was keen to leave gracefully and without rocking the boat, but this has really crossed the line for me and I don’t know if I should confront her about it. On one hand, there’s not really anything anyone can do to change the outcome, but on the other I also want her to know that she’s done the wrong thing and damaged a strong working relationship. What should I do?!

  • What to do when I am currently working a minimum job but I am looking for another one?

So, I am currently working a minimum wage job but I want to find a closer one. If I were to scheduele an interview, should I mention that I can t start the job until two weeks because I have to give in my two weeks notice at another job? I feel like that soundsa bit rude in a way.

Im 26 (female) and I currently work 38hrs a week in a supermarket. I have been there for about 14 months, I am now looking for another job to get out of there. About a week ago the old manager that used to run the store I’m currently at called me up and asked me if I wanted another job working on the weekends in another new store that just opened. I said yes that I would be happy to do it (for extra cash), he said fine and that he would call me back later after he discusses it with the store owners. He also asked me how it’s been at my job and wanted to see if I was still there and if I was ok. I asked him how he has been, he told me he bought a house, a car and was going to Africa soon. Before he got off the phone he told me not to tell anyone at work. It’s been a week now and I thought I was supposed to be working this weekend but he hasn’t called me back. I find it extremely odd that he just called me out of the blue since we haven’t seen each other or spoken to each other for 7 months. Why did he randomly call me for a job and then not call me back?

She replied back saying yes I'll give you a date, however they replied yesterday, and looking at it the date clashes with my full time job and I couldn't do the babysitting job anymore. I want to give her notice and don't want to make any bad feelings or seem unprofessional, how do I do this? I also had to say no to babysitting this week due to a legit reason but I feel she might think I am making excuses. Thanks a lot for your time :)

  • Would You Be Upset if Your Kid Was Working at a Store After College?

My daughter studied marketing/fashion in college. I wanted her to become a lawyer, doctor, PR person, actress, SOMETHING.... Instead she ended up as an assistant department store manager. Is that bad? It's retail. Should I be embarrassed?

Talk about awful timing, right? Okay so here are the details. I've been employed with this company for 4 years. 5 weeks ago I was offered the opportunity to fly out to the west coast to attend a 4 day seminar offered by a planning software/ system company that we will be implementing next year. All expenses are paid by the company, including the cost of the seminar, my travel arrangements, lodging, and meals. So I did not have to pay a penny of my own money for the trip. I just got back from the trip yesterday. A company that I had interviewed with about a month ago has reached out to me this past week and extended me an offer for the position I interviewed for. I feel terrible to resign now after I just got to go on this great trip, but this offer is too good to pass up! It will allow me to relocate back to my hometown and the position is exactly in line with my career goals. I would like to accept but now I'm worried that if I put in my two weeks notice, my employer will make me pay for at least part of the trip - even though that was never discussed verbally or in writing that I would owe any money. So legally could they make me pay for some or all of it? I want to go about this delicately. I do not want to burn bridges. Thanks!

It's a blessing to figure out what kind of job we are best suited for based on our unique personalities. Even a mediocre job is fine if it's covering your bills, but if it's not covering your bills, you should do what most people have to do in this life and that is figure out how to get a higher paying job to cover your expenses (and try not to live above your means).

I went to the interview and got the job but my dad talked me out of actually taking the job. He told me I wouldn't get but about 20 hours a week and that they'd probably pay minimum wage and that it wouldn't even be worth it. And he kept going on and on about why I shouldn't do it. So I called them and told them I changed my mind. Why does my dad not want me to have a job? I was glad to get the job because no one was calling me back. I'm at the point right now where I'll take any job I can get. What's his deal?
