• Can you name a song released this year that has actually been good?

Best answer: Nope. That’s why I don’t listen to music stations anymore on the radio. It’s just news radio. Great way to keep up with current events and also make myself smarter.

I have been writing song lyrics ever since I was in middle school and I love doing it. I try to improve myself every time I write a new set of lyrics and I always make sure to put my best foot forward to make them interesting, intelligent and relatable. Plus, I I like talking about human nature like struggling with an identity crisis, the thrill and frustration that comes from yearning for something that you know you can't have, the challenges/sacrifices/regret/uncertaniti... that come with following your dreams. Heck, I even have a set of lyrics that are meant to empower survivors of sexual assault/rape. For the past few weeks, I have been trying to get a better understanding of music theory so I can put music to my lyrics. However, I have sadly come to a conclusion that people don t seem to pay much attention to lyrics when they are listening to music. In fact, it seems like more and more people are starting to gear towards instrumentals these days. Therefore, should I stop writing lyrics all together and focus more at getting better with music composition when people most likely won t bother to care what my lyrics are saying?

  • What is the song "Don't dream it's over" by Crowded House all about?

Best answer: In a broad sense, I think the message of the song is simply "don't give in". Staying strong about things that matter to you when the challenge seems overwhelming (try to catch the deluge in a paper cup... many battles are lost... etc.), and finding strength in those close to you (they come to build a... show more

Staying strong about things that matter to you when the challenge seems overwhelming (try to catch the deluge in a paper cup... many battles are lost... etc.), and finding strength in those close to you (they come to build a wall between us, but we know they won't win...).. Neil Finn is always very tricky and cryptic with his lyrics. The context of this song could be interpreted in many ways, it could be seen as being in reference to a relationship, or about a political or social cause, or just about any kind of personal struggle with adversity. I heard a performance of it recently where Neil threw in a Trump reference at the end along with the line "Don't let them win"...
Great song, love Crowded House and Split Enz.

So, the idea of having words in a piece of music directly contradicts the purpose of music itself, doesn't it?. Also, I personally feel like having lyrics in a music limits me of how I am supposed to enjoy the music. Like, if you took an dance music with exciting tempo and melodies and so on, but then change the happy lyrics to a sad lyrics instead, then, would it still be a song to communicate excitement or will it become a sad music instead? I hope you know what I mean.

  • What's an upbeat song that's actually really sad (about death)?

I'm looking for a song that sounds fun but it's actually about death or leaving (not romantic or about suicide). Any suggestions? P.S. If it has something about not waking up, that's perfect.

  • I've been looking for an oldies song (60s or early 70s) that is sung by a woman and man together.?

It is a slow song and contains the lyrics "loving you" (not a lot of info I know), but most memorably at its climax it has the man and woman saying "baby", "baby", back and forth a few times. They sound African American if thats any help. Damn I wish I remembered more lyrics!!
