So I work in retail and I was helping a lady find a dress. Shes going to a wedding and was asking me for help on what I think would look nice. While I was helping her, she was making racist remarks. There was a Hispanic family that walked past us and they said something like "did you talk to your uncle Edwardo today?" To their kid. The lady I was helping heard that and whispered to me "who cares what uncle Edwardo Pedro Diaz Garcia has to say?" And I thought that was really racist but I continued to help her. So after a few minutes go by, I asked her if she would like to open a credit card with us to save money. She agreed and after she applied for the card, it wanted me to contact the card application office so I did and then they asked to speak to the applicant. I put the lady on the phone and a couple minutes later the lady I was helping said "ugh this stupid woman put me on hold. I can t stand these people (the worker on the phone was Hispanic) and I know I m biased and racist but really what the hell" and she was being very mean to the worker and saying things like "let me talk slower so you can understand me cause apparently you can t " Long story short, I checked her out and she left. Well I told my co workers what happened and they got mad at me. They said I should ve told the customer she is being very racist and she needs to leave. But I just wanted to remain professional and not cause a scene. Did I do the right thing? Or should I have told her to leave?

My boss or coworkers might be looking at me 5 feet away and smiling at me, and they might think I'm a snob because I didn't smile back.

Best answer: people like to believe that is true--some people like to specify--everyone is "born equal" but that is not true either--when someone is born to 2 crack addicted parents they will never be equal-

  • Is it ever okay to tell someone you're staring because they looked like a "past relative" ?

Like a relative that died. I sometimes see ladies that look like my late grandmother and I cant help but stare. But if they catch me i wouldn't know what to say. Would it be rude to say they look like a late relative of mine?

I have next to no privacy even one of the apartment managers makes fun of me, saying I know your having group sex. And my neighbor went down one night and complained that me and my guests were so loud we woke him.

Best answer: Yes, it is. It may also get you fired. Why? Because you are clearly throwing gas on the fire. You aren't saying anything to diffuse the situation but instead are invalidating the customer's emotional state and their complaint. You are trivializing them and trying to make them seem small and petty for their reaction.

What's more, saying that is profoundly stupid, a completely illogical argument. How people usually find you has absolutely nothing to do with the situation at hand, making your assertion argumentatively what is called a "straw man." A "straw man" is a logically fallacious and distracting argument one puts forward that one can easily win and thus make it seem one has won the other argument that is actually being argued. Since the other person can't disprove how other people usually find you because they have no basis to argue against that, you easily win that argument, and in so doing, you are trying to translate that win into making it seem like you've won the unrelated but actual argument that is at hand when, in actuality, how people usually find you has absolutely nothing to do with the argument at hand.

Even if they're calling you "rude," if that's the argument, the fact that 20 other people didn't think you were rude to them yesterday or the day before or even earlier today doesn't mean you're not being rude now. Rather, since proof is in the pudding, this mouthiness, this sass you're giving them, actually proves their point that you are being rude and anything but likeable and are giving that customer no reason at all to be happy to see you.

You are not at work for your own emotional satisfaction. You are at work to serve the customer in front of you right now and create the most positive experience you can for that customer so that they become more likely to come back and become a regular customer. Saying to an angry customer, "Gee that's odd, most of the customers really like me a lot and are usually happy to see me," is doing the EXACT OPPOSITE of your job, what your employer is paying you to do. Your job is to diffuse that anger and turn it into a positive experience, not rebuff it with a bunch of lip.

I work at a dollar store, and at the store, theres sales associates (me), supervisors, and managers. One of the supervisors has a really big ego. She feels that she is the best, and talks sh*t about all the other employees. Not only that, but she keeps us late. For example, we closed at 6 one day, so our shifts went until 6:30. But she kept me until almost 8. I told her that it was getting late, but she ignored me. I would talk to my manager about this but i feel like ill just be complaining about someone, because work gets done while shes working. So it would be more about our happiness when working with her instead of work not getting done (if that makes sense). Ive talked to other employees (including the other supervisors) about this, and they dont like her either. So what im wondering is, is this something i should talk to the manager about, or should i just talk to her about this? Or should i do something else?

  • What Alcoholic drink tastes best?

Best answer: cider beer will be a lot nicer of an experience than sugary (candy-like) liquor drinks. You can take your time finishing it, you can get it in a bottle or a pint. You can get woodchuck or strongbow in lot of bars (around here at least). If you don't want to get sick, then don't have more than a pint. It's not that it's so strong that you can't have more, it's just that drinking more than a pint of beer is going to make you lethargic (calorie-wise, it's almost all carbs and it just makes you feel heavy and bloated). I've never heard of beer making someone feel sick in the way that hard liquor drinks can. Liquor (even those sugary candy liquor mixed drinks) are more concentrated, and abdominal pain is not uncommon since dumping a concentration of alcohol down your digestive tract irritates it significantly and "all at once" as compared to diluted beverages like beer or cider beer. So, if you're worried about that kind of thing then I recommend you try one of these.

All alcohol smells bad, and has a bad aftertaste. I can't think of one kind that's the "least bad", so it's not a reason to choose one over the other.

Of course, make sure you drink responsibly. Note that there is a delayed effect from the time you drink to the time you feel it. Don't drink until you feel it, be patient and see how it's affecting you so you don't find yourself suddenly in the deep end after downing a bunch then one minute you're fine and the next you feel like you're drowning, that's not fun and it's also dangerous. Be safe and have fun.

When I’m on the cashiers or out on the floor, I’m friendly and polite to customers - I usually just smile and say, “hello, how are you?” or “hi there”. If they want help, then I gladly help them. One lady I work with (she is 35) goes above and beyond with customers, and I think it’s over-the-top. She seems to think she is better than everyone else. She will say things to customers like, “Oh, hello there sir! How are you today!? How can I be of assistance to you this afternoon? Let me know if you need anything at all!” She talks non-stop to them and is overly enthusiastic about EVERYTHING. I have never seen someone so passionate in retail. It makes me feel so uncomfortable, like my service isn’t good enough, or like I don’t put in enough effort. How can I not let her bother me?

During the hearing, when the judge read the case, he looked at me like I wasn't sane. Then he said, "The police detective telling you to stop contacting her was not enough for you? You need to learn when to stop. Move on. She doesn't want any relationship with you." When he made the decision, he granted the plaintiff the restraining order for four years. There were about 20 cases before mine that day, and out of all of them, mine was the only one where he said my behavior was "unreasonable,' after reading the number of calls, texts, messages, and emails I sent. The judge said, "No more contact, directly, or indirectly for 4 years. if you violate that, then I will make it for life. That means you can never get a job or rent an apartment. Do you get it?" I smiled at him, the same way I smiled at my professors during the exam. Then he said, "Do you want me to make it for five years?" I said no. He said, "Then why are you smiling at me? You think this is funny?"
