Best answer: not always but sometimes. just do your best. sometimes you just have to suck up to authority and have a good attitude. definitely don’t sabotage sadie. it seems like sadie is a super reliable dancer and your coach doesn’t care to much about her job.

Well I don’t know if anything to Major in. I’m officially a senior in high school and I’ve been trying not to put college last minute kind of thing so I thought try now but I don’t know what I want. I want to dance like it’s always been a interest to me but I can do turns like I could do some hip hop so I’ve been trying to find a good dance team for college. The problem is I don’t know where to look. When I look up best dance teams in college I find ones that are like REAL dance as in turns and leaps and even splits or it’s a Pom dance team which means it’s also cheerleader which means there’s going to be stunts and I can’t stunt. I’ve been trying to find a major but as dumb as this sound I don’t want a job that involves like sitting behind a desk or cutting animals or humans open. My mom thinks I’m pretty much stupid like I pretty much don’t want to do a job that involves work. I know dancing takes work but it’s fun and I would take classes to get better at dancing but that’s a lot of money and my family can’t afford it and I know by a fact they can’t afford it because that’s the reason I had to quit dancing. So please help and please don’t call me stupid or crazy because I already know that.

Best answer: From the descriptions I would find a way to contact the group fitness manager or someone else who can do something about this. I think the context does matter as to whether some of the things said were appropriate or not depending on the nature of the class, the manner in which it was said and the nature of the relationship between the students and the instructor; but from the manner you describe it it does not seem appropriate.

The thing is, while you may be scared of the repercussions if you complain, if you think or suspect the behaviour is abuse it is not just you who is being subjected to the behaviour but the whole class. It is particularly important to report this if some of the students he teaches are minors - if not in this setting, in other settings where he teaches. It is always better to be safe than sorry in regards to potentially abusive behaviour.

Best answer: My best advice is not to practice at home. That just engrains bad habits. The hardest thing for you will probably be doing pirouettes turned out, since jazz doesn't require turn out. That was a hard habit for me to break--I kept doing pirouettes straight like in jazz, instructors were constantly reminding me to turn out. I would suggest standing at the barre between two other dancers, that way no matter which side you start on, you'll have someone in front of you to follow along to. Pay close attention to your instructor, and try not to get frazzled if you don't understand a word they're saying. Don't feel bad when you get corrections--they help! If you're having trouble with something in particular, talk to your instructor after class if you can. Usually they'll have no problem explaining it to you. Also, go up to the instructor and introduce yourself before the first class. I did that to my first two instructors but not the third, then she asked a question that I had to raise my hand for (and I was the only one to raise my hand) and she was like "who tf are you?" and it did NOT set things off well. Introduce yourself, even if it feels silly. It's better than the alternative, I promise.
    Hope that helps! Good luck!

  • Is it possible to do turns without taking any dance classes?

Best answer: Pointe shoes are not supposed to be comfortable but they are not supposed to hurt. Make sure you are actively lifting up and out of your shoes when going up.
Your shoes need to be broken in by hand first before you do any work in them. Letting your feet alone break in the shoe is a bad idea as your shoe would be unstable. Not to mention if you let your feet alone do that your shoe can breaks in, in the wrong place. Your teacher will show you how to do this properly and/or I will give you a link on how to do this. First make sure your teacher approves of the fit before you sew anything on them or attempt to break them in.
Once your box is broken in properly by hand it is likely that pressure on your big toe will be relieved.

    * Adding more padding can actually make it hurt more. It makes the fit tighter. The less padding the more you can “feel the floor” and have control when you dance.

Best answer: You could try CPYB. They have taken students at all levels and even at your age. Expect to be with younger students. They can do this because they have over 20 levels. There are no auditions as you get in with photos. Placement is after you get there. The year my daughter attended there was a guy who was in his early 20s in the beginner level A class. He had never taken ballet before and it was his dream to give it a try.

If you weren’t looking for a ballet focus there is the Paul Taylor SI. Most of the modern/ contemporary programs are for college age dance students but will be expecting an advanced level as there are auditions to get in. Another option is to make your own intensive by attending open daily classes at one if the places that offers those like STEPS on Broadway in NYC, or Koresh Dance in Philly as well as other places in Chicago and L.A. Any place with a large dance presence. It is even possible your college might offer summer classes or could help with a suggestion for you.
