• How bad is a PSAT score of 1140 for a sophomore?

I think it's terrible lol. Saddest part is I know I'm an intellectual person it's just I suck at time management so it's at least partially due to the fact that I had to guess on so many questions because I ran out of time.

  • My kid has an IQ of 131 yet he's failing math. How is this possible? It makes no sense.?

I am so upset. I had him tested and the psychologist who administered the test showed that he has an IQ of 131 with a verbal IQ of 140. Yet he's failing algebra, a subject so simple that even a retard could pass. It makes no sense. The kid writes compositions that his teachers praise, he takes Spanish and... show more

Yet he's failing algebra, a subject so simple that even a retard could pass. It makes no sense. The kid writes compositions that his teachers praise, he takes Spanish and French at the same time and gets As in both yet he can't pass a math test. I feel like he's not living up to his potential. It angers me. If he doesn't start getting acceptable grades in math I am going to really lose it.

Best answer: 1. You prepare everything you need. Books, pencils, erasers and water (very important to be hydrated).
    2. You study for a solid 25 minutes straight, with no distractions like lying on a bed, radio or cell phone.
    3. After 25 minutes, you take a 5 minute break doing whatever you want.
    4. Repeat 4 of these 25 minute study sessions. Then take a 15 minute break.
    5. Repeat this cycle until you get the results you want.

    Or

    1. Scan: You must take your textbook and just scan through the chapter you are going to study. Look at the headings, the pictures and fact boxes. This should not take longer than 2 minutes. It is a very quick scan.
    2. Question: The next step is to make questions. Take the different headings in the chapter and turn them into questions. Write these down for later usage. Also include typical exam questions.
    3. Read: You must read actively. You can even read aloud. Reading actively means underlining certain key words, encircling things and drawing arrows to words that can "connect".
    4. Recite: Read aloud the main points and make short summaries.
    5. Review: Test yourself with the questions you made in the 2nd step. Try to find old exam papers. Do these and see how well you know your work.

The first method is really about creating a habit. If the first day you only study the 25 minutes, fine, and we both know you can do it for 25 minutes. In fact I don't want you to do more, just 25 minutes. But eventually you will feel you aren't doing much at all, the 25 minutes went by before you knew it and you might rest the 5 minutes and repeat.

The second method keeps you active, you are doing different activities so it isn't boring and they all require that you be engaged, that you participate.
