Best answer: Cats actually have really good memories. Better than dogs, both short and long term. My parents got a cat when I was in college, and when they got her, I just happened to be at home, since I had come down with strep, and she kept me company while I laid sick in bed for a few days. Then I went back to school and didn't really see her much except maybe a weekend here and there, until school got out, and each time I came home she totally remembered me. Then after college, I lived at my parents house on and off, and when I was living there, I was totally her favorite. Then a couple years later, I went to a grad school that was much farther away, and so I only came home once or twice per year, and she definitely remembered me still, as she wasn't allowed in my room when I wasn't home, because my mom kept it as a guest room and wanted it to stay cat hair free. But when I came home, if I went to bed, and shut the door, she'd meow until I came and let her in, since she knew I was in there. My mom said she never did that when nobody was in there, or even when any guests stayed in that room, but always did when she knew I was home, and knew I was in there. She also was kind of a rude cat to most people, and even sometimes growled when people picked her up. But she never did that when I picked her up. She liked it when I picked her up. Cats remember a lot more than you think. The article I provided a link to below talks about it.

My vet also recommended Feliway or a similar pheromone spray if I had no luck with the extra tray. I didn't need to use it myself but she said some of her patients had a good result.

My mom doesn't want her animals in her bedroom with her and I'm trying to focus on my writing. The cat has been meowing non-stop for twenty minutes wanting in my mom's room. The dog has been whining for just as long wanting to go in my mom's room. I opened the door for them and was yelled at by my mom who kicked them back out. I can't concentrate with the animals meowing and whining, it's too annoying. I can't put on music because music distracts me as do movies and shows and any other noise that comes from something I'll want to stop writing and listen to or watch. I tried headphones with no sound but first of all, I hate having earbuds in my ears and those stereo headphones I hate because it bugs me having something over my ears, also I could still hear the stupid animals. My mom doesn't usually lock them out of her room and I think she has the right not to want them in with her, she has the right to want to be alone, but it's not fair that I have to hear the animals begging to go in. That cat once meowed for two hours on and off like every five seconds so don't tell me to just ignore them and they'll stop. MY ANIMALS DON'T GIVE UP WHEN THEY WANT SOMETHING. I let them in with me hoping my attention would be enough, but only my cat- there are two cats in the house- was satisfied as she always comes to me for attention anyways. How do I shut them up?

Hi there, I've had my cat for a year and he's always been an indoor cat, but for the last 3-4 months, I've been letting him out in our tall, wooded FENCED backyard for 30-60 minutes a day. Yes, I am well aware that he could easily climb that fence and wander off, but he's yet to figure that out. And I ALWAYS sit outside with him to make sure he's safe, and always bring him in with me if I go back inside for whatever reason, even if it's just to get a glass of water or to use the restroom, and I close the door behind us. He's ok with this... He doesn't usually meow at me to get let back out or anything. Usually, he'll follow me around the house or go and lay down. But if he does happen to meow at me to get let back out, I'll play with him for 10-20 minutes and that calms him down. The reason I started letting him outside like this, is because he'd always watch me take my little dog out to go potty or just to sit out in the sun, and he'd get jealous and would sit and scratch at the door, wanting to come out with us. It would always make me feel bad, so...yeah. Before this, I was against letting him out. I'm just not sure if this is okay, especially since there's a higher risk for him to get fleas. He also eats the grass. Is it ok that he comes outside with me? Thanks! :)
