I went to a ""recipe shower"" about eighteen months ago - YES in AUS :-)
The brides sister hosted the shower & asked all the guests to bring their favourite dish to share along with the recipe for that dish.
She had asked that everybody forward a copy of their recipes to her prior to the event.
She then collated the recipes in a book with the name of who provided the recipe. The book was then presented to the bride at her shower.
You could still do the 'recipe book' idea - it would just require a bit more work on your part to get a copy of the guest list from the host & approach those people. Maybe include the basic dry ingredients for a couple of the recipes , herbs, spices etc.
1 shower that I went to was an ''entertainment shower"". The gifts here included movie vouchers, dinner vouchers, chocolate fondue set, board games.
Some of the other suggestions have been great also.
Another suggestion ** house / pet sit ** while they are on their honeymoon. You could make up a ''voucher'' for this.
A gourmet basket - it would be cheaper for you to put one together yourself :- wine , cheese ( you can get canned brie ) biscuits, other snacks
I have also been to a 'lingerie shower' where the bride was able to avail herself of the hostess rewards.
