Is it legal for a sheriff to show up to your home/property unannounced and look around the yard and through the windows with a flashlight?

I live in the state of Texas however I m unfamiliar with some of the laws, and this is becoming disconcerning and suspicious. The first time we called the department and were told "he knocked but it was quiet". However he did not, he had searched through our yard where our dogs are usually tied up and then left, and it was late around 10pm. The second time I came home from church and he was peering through our windows with a flashlight and when I asked if there was something I could help him with, he said he was looking for my boyfriend. However this was around 8:30 at night and my boyfriend was at a friends house. When I let him know and I asked if there was anything I need to tell him, the officer replied with "have him call the department" to speak to him. When I asked my roommates if they knew he was outside they said no. That once again there was no knock on the door and they didn t even know he pulle up. I believe them, had he knocked on the door, silently or loudly the dogs would have barked and we would have heard his vehicle pull up. Is this legal for him to just show up, and search our yard and look through the windows without announcement of his presence? He has no business being here, as I paid for my boyfriends ticket so he wouldn t have an active warrant. Please let me know, there s a child living in this house and I do not want him to show up and start something in front of her that she should not see. Thank you.
