How come cats don't steal food, but dogs do?

Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but if you are eating a piece of, say, meat? Idk, whatever.. anyways.. Instead, most cats give you gifts (like the typical dead mouse thing). It's like they will GIVE to you, but not EXPECT you to go out of your way to share the food you could eat. Of course, you feed them cat food and maybe some treats, but they don't expect to eat the food that you eat, even if they want it. With most dogs, its the opposite. They expect you to give them their food, your food, etc. But... they don't give back. I love both dogs and cats SO much. However, its kind of obvious which one is more respectful lol. Sure, cats can do wrong as well. One of mine likes to steal my stuff. My dog also steals my stuff. The difference? My cat gives it back.. all on her own lol. I just don't understand how people call cats "selfish" lol. Yeah, dogs do tricks.. but for FOOD. My old cat would pick locks for me (i **** you not he did XD), he didn't expect a single thing. He even did it on command. Like..?
Update: Lol sorry, i should of been more specific when it came to the respect thing. Some cats do not have respect for their owners, doesn't mean they dislikes them... they just don't see reason to respect them. Once you give them a reason, they will stop. When I had my old cat, he would ONLY steal food from my parents. I was just a baby at the time, but I earned his respect. Each year, he respected me more and more. Every cat is different. For dogs, they may respect you for food. You're just lucky lol
Update 2: Im not sure if the cats being strays increases it... my cats were ALL strays. Except for 1. The one that WASNT a stray ended up being the foodie, but again, he never bothered me. Even if I had his favorite food, cheese.
